Chapter 5: Housing

Chapter 5: Housing: "3. My former friend is now an unwelcome, guest in my house. What can I do to make that person leave?

If the person has not been living with you for a long time then you have the right to evict them immediately. You would be well advised to seek legal advice first however, as the person may have some right of which you are not aware. You might end up having to provide them with compensation if you compromise these rights. Even if you do have a right of immediate eviction, you cannot withhold any of the person's property or damage it, even if you think they have abandoned it or you think the person owes you money.

However if you have concerns about your physical safety, or are worried that the person may damage your property, you should discuss the matter with friends, family or the local police. If you have the right to evict and the person refuses to leave, you might be able to seek the help of the police to have the person escorted from your property as a trespasser."
